Bienvenue at the international summer school Son et Lumière SEL2025 !
This 9th edition of the SEL school will be held from August 18 to 29, 2025 in Banyuls-sur-Mer (France).
The interactions between sound and light are at the heart of many current fundamental and applied research issues in disciplines such as physics, materials science, biology, nanotechnology, and engineering.
The fields of application, where sound/light interactions are central, are varied and timely, ranging from the characterization and metrology of composite materials and structures, to the imaging of biological environments and the diagnosis of living organisms, including the study and engineering of heat transport at the nanometric scale, the study of quasi-particles arising from phonon/photon (or other) couplings, and the advancement of (quantum) information and communication technologies.
This multidisciplinarity is combined with a wide range of spatial scales (from macroscopic to nanometric) and temporal scales (from milliseconds to femtoseconds) and with variable environmental conditions (temperature, pressure, radiation), which can be extreme.
The 2025 edition of the International School Son et Lumière aims to provide participants with a detailed and up-to-date overview of the subject through courses taught by leading scientists in their fields. Each course will consist of a tutorial on a specific research topic, presenting the fundamental principles, both theoretical and experimental, to allow participants to best understand the second part of the course, which will cover the most recent and fascinating results on that topic.
